Trailer Release Window Confirmed

As the year winds down, anticipation for the movie continues to grow. James Gunn has confirmed that the first Supergirl teaser trailer will drop during the week of December 8, 2025. Fans have already been treated to a brief preview of the footage, offering a taste of the film’s tone and style.

Kara’s DCU Debut

Milly Alcock first appeared as Supergirl in the 2025 Superman film starring David Corenswet. She appeared in the final moments, arriving at the Fortress of Solitude to retrieve her dog, Krypto—who will also appear in her solo movie. The moment set the stage for Kara’s next chapter in the expanding DCU.

Production Details

Principal photography on Supergirl wrapped in May 2025. The film is directed by Craig Gillespie, with a screenplay by Ana Nogueira, who is also writing DC Studios’ upcoming Wonder Woman and Teen Titans projects.

Inspired by a Fan-Favorite Comic

The movie adapts Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s acclaimed comic Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, presenting a grittier portrayal of Krypton’s last daughter. King—who also helped develop DC Studios’ Lanterns—contributed to the film’s creative direction.

Jason Momoa Joins the DCU as Lobo

The film will introduce one of the DCU’s biggest new characters: Lobo, played by former Aquaman star Jason Momoa. His appearance marks his first role in the new DC Universe. Earlier in 2025, Momoa spoke with ScreenRant’s Ash Crossan and shared his excitement about the part:

Jason Momoa: “This is the role I’ve always wanted to play. I’m nervous, but it’s a no-brainer. We look dead on—exactly like the character. He’s rough, he’s gruff…and the bike is really cool.”

Ash Crossan: “Do you think we’ll be hanging out with him for a while?”

Jason Momoa: “I hope so. It’s her movie, so I just come in for a little bit—but I hope we get more.”
