Texas Tech and BYU will face off in the 2025 Big 12 championship game on Saturday, Dec. 6.
The pairing was finalized before either team played its regular-season finale on Nov. 29, thanks to Arizona State’s loss to Arizona in the Territorial Cup the night before. Both Texas Tech and BYU enter Week 14 with 7–1 conference records, and although Utah sits just behind them at 7–2, the Red Raiders and Cougars each hold head-to-head victories over the Utes, securing their places in the championship.
This will be the first-ever Big 12 title game appearance for both programs, guaranteeing a first-time champion.
Texas Tech Red Raiders offensive lineman Howard Sampson (79) blocks Brigham Young Cougars defensive end Tausili Akana (13) during their first meeting in Lubbock.
The stakes are massive: the winner earns the Big 12’s automatic bid to the College Football Playoff. Texas Tech sits at No. 5 in the most recent CFP rankings, while BYU is No. 11.
The matchup is also a rematch of their Week 11 game, when Texas Tech delivered a standout defensive performance in a 29–7 victory — BYU’s only loss so far this season.
