Metallica Returns to Athens After 16 Years with Sold-Out M72 World Tour Show

Legendary heavy metal band Metallica will return to Athens on May 9 for a major concert at Olympic Stadium. The event marks the group’s first performance in Greece since 2010. Moreover, the concert is part of the globally successful M72 World Tour.

The tour supports Metallica’s eleventh studio album, 72 Seasons, released in 2023. In total, this will be the band’s fifth appearance in Greece.

Tickets Sell Out Quickly

Fans rushed to buy tickets as soon as sales opened. As a result, the event sold out within just two hours. Standard tickets originally ranged from €86 to €178, while Snake Pit access near the center stage reached €550.

Meanwhile, resale prices increased dramatically. Some premium tickets now appear online for more than €3,000. Consequently, the concert has become one of Europe’s most talked-about live music events this year.

Massive Stage Setup Nears Completion

Preparations at the stadium are already underway. Trucks carrying equipment for Metallica’s signature 360-degree stage have arrived at the venue. Unlike traditional setups, the circular stage allows fans to surround the band from every direction.

Organizers expect nearly 80,000 people to attend the concert. Furthermore, officials confirmed that the show will proceed as planned despite online speculation about the stadium’s readiness.

Supporting Acts Join the Lineup

The concert will also feature performances from Knocked Loose and Gojira. Knocked Loose will begin at 6 p.m., while Gojira will perform at 7 p.m. Afterward, Metallica is expected to take the stage around 8:30 p.m.

Security Measures Announced

Organizers released a detailed list of prohibited items before the event. Large bags, drones, fireworks, laser pointers, alcohol, and illegal substances will not be permitted inside the stadium. In addition, security staff will ban detachable-lens cameras and oversized accessories.
