Lollapalooza 2026 Expands Street Closures Around Grant Park Ahead of Festival

With Lollapalooza 2026 just over a week away, traffic restrictions are increasing throughout the Grant Park area in Chicago’s Loop as preparations for the annual music festival continue.

The first major closure began on July 15, when Balbo Drive between Columbus Drive and DuSable Lake Shore Drive was shut down. That section will remain closed until August 9. Starting July 21, Jackson Drive from Columbus Drive to DuSable Lake Shore Drive also closed and is expected to reopen on August 8.

Pedestrian access has also been affected. Since July 15, sidewalks on both sides of Balbo Drive between Columbus and DuSable Lake Shore Drive, along with the northbound sidewalk on Columbus Drive between Roosevelt Road and Ida B. Wells Drive, have been closed.

Additional sidewalk restrictions took effect on July 20, including the southbound sidewalk along the same section of Columbus Drive and both sidewalks on Jackson Drive between Columbus and DuSable Lake Shore Drive.

More road and sidewalk closures will be implemented as the festival approaches its opening day on Thursday, July 30.

Meanwhile, Grant Bark Park closed on July 15 and will remain unavailable until August 8. During the closure, visitors can use a temporary dog park located southeast of the Skate Park.
